About Artisan Electric
A Heritage of Craftsmanship. A Commitment to Excellence.
At Artisan Electric, exceptional electrical work is about more than what happens behind the walls. It’s about the care, precision, and experience that go into every decision, every connection, and every finished detail. We believe that quality craftsmanship, thoughtful planning, and strong relationships are the foundation of work that stands the test of time.
Based in Northern Michigan, Artisan Electric provides residential and commercial electrical services with a particular focus on custom construction, architectural lighting, and detailed electrical installations. From distinctive new homes and carefully considered renovations to specialized lighting and electrical systems, we approach each project with the same commitment to safety, reliability, and refined workmanship.
Rooted in Northern Michigan. Built on Experience.
Meet Jacob Gerstner, Master Electrician
Artisan Electric is led by Jacob Gerstner, a second-generation Northern Michigan Master Electrician whose professional approach reflects both a family heritage in the electrical trade and a dedication to the craft.
Growing up with a connection to the electrical industry helped establish an appreciation for the knowledge, responsibility, and attention to detail that quality electrical work demands. Today, Jacob brings that perspective to a business founded on technical expertise, integrity, and the belief that every project deserves careful consideration.
As a licensed and insured electrical professional, Jacob understands that the most successful installations are those that balance safety and performance with the practical and aesthetic requirements of the space. His work is particularly well suited to projects where precision matters, details are important, and the electrical installation must complement the overall architectural vision.
Whether working directly with a homeowner or collaborating with a team of experienced building professionals, Jacob takes pride in providing clear communication, dependable service, and the personal accountability that comes from putting his name behind his work.
The Artisan Approach
Thoughtful Electrical Work for Enduring Spaces
The name Artisan Electric reflects our philosophy: electrical work is a skilled craft, and the quality of its execution matters.
While much of an electrical system remains out of sight, its impact is experienced every day. The placement of a fixture, the warmth of a carefully selected lighting arrangement, the convenience of a thoughtfully positioned outlet, and the reliability of a properly designed electrical system all contribute to the comfort and character of a space.
We specialize in projects that benefit from this level of attention. Custom residences, architecturally significant renovations, bespoke lighting installations, and specialized electrical construction require more than standard solutions. They demand careful planning, collaboration, and an understanding of how electrical systems interact with the larger design.
Our objective isn’t simply to complete an installation. It’s to contribute to a finished project that functions beautifully, performs reliably, and reflects the quality of the craftsmanship surrounding it.
Collaboration Is Part of Our Craft
Clear Communication. Strong Relationships. Better Results.
Great construction is a collaborative process. Electricians, builders, architects, interior designers, and property owners all contribute different perspectives and expertise to a successful project.
At Artisan Electric, we value those relationships and understand the importance of communication throughout the construction process. We take the time to listen, ask questions, anticipate challenges, and coordinate our work with the other professionals involved.
For homeowners, that means having an electrician who explains the process, respects their property, and takes their concerns seriously. For builders and design professionals, it means working with an electrical contractor who appreciates schedules, understands the importance of details, and recognizes how individual decisions affect the finished space.
We believe professionalism is demonstrated not only by the quality of the completed work, but also by the experience of working together.
A Family-Owned Business with Personal Values
Artisan Electric is a family-operated Northern Michigan business led by Jacob and his wife, Emily, who manages the company’s day-to-day operations.
Together, they bring a personal approach to serving customers, combining Jacob’s hands-on electrical expertise with the organization, communication, and attention that keep projects moving forward.
As a locally rooted business, we understand the value of reputation and relationships. Our customers aren’t simply project numbers, and our work doesn’t end with an invoice. We want to establish the kind of lasting trust that makes people comfortable recommending us to their friends, families, builders, and colleagues.
That commitment to personal service is central to how we operate, whether we’re involved in a complex custom home, a lighting installation, a generator project, or a straightforward electrical improvement.
Serving Northern Michigan with Pride
Local Knowledge. Lasting Commitment.
Northern Michigan is home, and we’re proud to contribute to the homes, businesses, and distinctive properties that make this region special.
Artisan Electric serves Traverse City, Leelanau County, Grand Traverse County, and surrounding Northern Michigan communities. We work on projects ranging from new construction and renovations to architectural lighting, commercial electrical installations, and generator systems.
We appreciate the character of Northern Michigan construction, from traditional homes and lakeside properties to contemporary residences and thoughtfully designed commercial spaces. Every property presents its own opportunities and challenges, and we believe the electrical work should be approached with respect for both the building and the people who use it.
Our commitment is to provide reliable, professional electrical services while maintaining the personal relationships and quality workmanship that define our business.
Safe. Refined. Timeless.
These three words represent more than a tagline. They reflect the standards we bring to every project.
Safe. Electrical systems should be designed and installed with safety, reliability, and long-term performance as fundamental priorities.
Refined. The best work is thoughtfully planned and carefully executed, with attention to the technical and visual details that distinguish exceptional craftsmanship.
Timeless. Quality electrical construction should continue to serve a property reliably for years to come, adapting to the needs of the people who live and work within it.
At Artisan Electric, we believe these principles belong together. They guide our approach, inform our decisions, and define the level of service we strive to provide.
